The project "Self-portrait's house" was born from the idea of creating a space that could serve as inspiration. The bright colourful walls and furnishings, the purpose of each room and how I personally experience the space were the pillars for the design of this home.
I wanted to focus on my lifestyle, deepen my identity and the cultures which have contributed to define my taste, my ideas, my way of feeling the space.
Tropical, European, messy, welcoming, simple, functional, original and rebellious. These are the adjectives that best describe the atmosphere and the style of "Meu Espaço"It unites two hemispheres, two countries, two homes: Brazil and Italy. Contrasting worlds full of colour, light, culture, art and life.
The goal: to take advantage of the space in a functional and creative way, designing corners and spaces with identifying elements. The library hanging from the mezzanine separates the entrance from the living room, creating a more reserved atmosphere.
Our surroundings influence us in so many ways. In this project, I didn't limit myself to what I already knew, to how I have experienced the space.
This time, I was influenced by the need of changing the way I see things around me every day, because the things we see every day are those we know less.
One of the main features of this project is the topic of "filters". To divide the rooms, I wanted to create continuous vertical and horizontal filters, in order to avoid unnecessary coverings.
Filters are very important for experiencing individual environments to the fullest. Walls divide, filters welcome. They allow us to decide, to choose, they give more freedom and cleanliness to the space.
Walls do not let us see beyond, they block us. The main filter in this project is the container/divider that has a triple function. It starts from the wall, then reaches the floor forming an L dividing the study area from the kitchen and living room, cutting the space both vertically and horizontally.
Clean lines cut the space, creating distinct areas and "filters" through which the rooms connect, preserving their own personality and privacy.
All the elements used as filters have a double function. The staircase that descends from the ceiling cuts the space between the sleeping area and the walk-in closet on the mezzanine floor, as it divides the living room and the bathroom on the ground floor.
