What the exhibition is about?
Each space has been designed with a specific purpose following 4 steps: to show, to discover, to build and to communicateThe pallet of colours, lighting, activities, and sharing areas have been studied to take us back to ourselves, to our childhood, to forget a little bit of the world out there and discover new horizons simply driven by our curiosity, just like when we were kids. The challenge: to find the best way to... give freedom to the thought, the sensations and feelings of its visitors through the design of the space.
The space is designed to include everyone. The stories shared in the panels are real experiences from people all around the world (thanks to the amazing work of Humans of New York).
The panels are made with fabric, to give a more familiar touch to the space and their irregular shape was specially studied to better represent the concept of different “normalities".
To show, to share.
Our Normality shares stories through the design of the space and its activities.
This is the first step: to show. The panels show photographs of people from all around the world and their stories. The shapes on the floor have the same dimensions of the cone of light, highlighting the stories and making it easier for the visitors to go through them. The dark parts are the walkway, and the circles are the islands of stories.
To discover, to learn.
A waterfall of lights. Each one of them bright stories written on the floor. These lights are adjustable and can be moved, so the visitors can light up the stories themselves.
The lighting in this room plays an important role, it’s the protagonist. To follow the stories means to
find a way out, a playful game of connection and learning. C
hosen to make the space feel as formal and familiar as possible, this is the “to build” space.
The challenge was to create a common space where people have the possibility to feel comfortable with themselves and to meet others naturally.
To build, to play.
This part of the exhibition aims to bring us back to when we were kids. The surfaces inside the tunnels are made of paper. At the entrance you can get some colours and all you need to do is to create your personal. colourful. shared. creative. wall!
In the next room, there is the POST IT wall, as a preparation to the last step.
Visitors can ask themselves questions or answer the questions in the wall from other people. It’s a preparation to go to the talk area, where sharing is going to be a face to face experience.
To communicate, to grow.
This is the last step: to communicate. The tunnels covered by pieces of fabric are an invitation to go beyond, to go through the unknown, to follow our curiosity. It takes you to a common area where small stools are all over the place, creating a communication circle, where people can talk to each other, have a coffee, learn and share their own stories.
